Domino's Pizza: Plowing for Pizza

We worked with Domino's Pizza and Work In Progress to create a unique pizza promotion!

Working with A Global Pizza Brand and Their AOR

Most people recognize Domino's Pizza as the world's largest pizza brand. In addition to being know for their global presence, Domino's is famous for their willingness to push the envelope with both their food and advertising.

Work In Progress in Boulder, Colorado is Domino's Pizza's Agency of Record (AOR). They collaborate to promote Domino's Pizza with unique and engaging promotions across the globe.

Last year, Work In Progress contacted Ultimax about a special promotion for Domino's Pizza.

The Design Inquiry

Like many business relationships - it all started with an email. Take a look at the actual information we were provided that led to this award-winning campaign!

We are looking to create some plastic flags to send out as part of a snow-themed gift box. Attached is a reference. We’re looking for a partner who can help us create the flag and the pole (or we can possibly purchase a pole if we find something that works).

Details:

  • Both elements need to be small enough to fit in a box the folded size of 30x18x12.

  • The pole is meant to look like a measuring stick so that can be stuck in the snow and will need to fold down to fit in the box. We’ll want it to include the measuring marks. Good reference for possible mechanics here or here but open to ideas.

  • The flag itself is meant to be durable and not necessarily made of fabric because we want the graphics to always be visible and it needs to last in snow. This is why we’re thinking it could be some sort of plastic/acrylic/etc. Whichever is most cost-effective. Size-wise, it needs to be small/light enough to be supported by our pole and smaller than the dimensions of the box (30x18). Based on the concept, we’re likely looking at 2-color (but would love to know the difference in cost between 2C and 4C).

  • The flag will need to be secured to the pole in a way that’s easy for the person receiving it to assemble.

This flag/sign isn’t meant to last forever, so it’s OK if we consider materials that are good for a couple of uses. It’s mainly for a photo opportunity but should be durable enough to withstand a few of uses.

Quantity: 25

Timing: Looking to have in hand last week of November.

Our Process

Once we heard from Work In Progress and Domino's Pizza, we got to work!

First, we took their specifications and suggested some materials:

  • corrugated plastic for the flag so it’s rigid
  • telescoping PVC pipes so they can fit in the box
  • printed vinyl applied to the PVC pipes so it acts as a measuring stick

Next, we created a sample for Work in Progress and Domino's Pizza to test and make sure it fits all their unique project requirements.

Finally, we completed and delivered the project to Work In Progress team members before the start of their campaign.

The Results

The team at Ultimax was proud to help Work In Progress and Domino's Pizza tell the Plowing for Pizza story. This was a fun and unique campaign because it was focused on brand development and awareness, and allowed our team to collaborate with a global brand to further their marketing efforts.

Work In Progress was recognized with a sliver Clio at the Clio Awards for their tremendous work.
